The technology-based service called Music Xray™, our flagship service, begins as we analyze the underlying mathematical patterns in music. This process can be compared to the original x-ray when it was first introduced to the medical field. The x-ray shows the doctor something that is already there but that could not be seen. The doctor then uses that information to make better decisions. Our Music Xray™ service works in much the same way in that it shows music industry professionals their music and their market in ways they could not see it before.

It helps accurately predict the success of hit songs and is thus used on the supply side of the music industry as a crystal ball. It helps the companies that make and sell music predict which songs are going to become hits due to the discovery that hit songs conform to a limited number of mathematical patterns that cannot be heard with the ear.

Our service helps the industry place more intelligent investments behind songs with a better chance of market success. It does not influence creativity or artistic integrity. As a tool it can be used to find the next mainstream pop hit. It can also be used to help labels feel more confident when promoting “risky” or innovative sounding music by showing them that there is a market for it and how to reach that market. Additionally, the technology can be used by music producers to help push the envelope of creativity.

On the demand side of the industry it does the equivalent of finding a needle in a haystack. We call this application the Platinum Song Seeker. With over 10 million songs (and growing) legally available to everyone at the click of a button, it identifies the music a person is most likely to enjoy (music search, recommendation and discovery). This is the next wave of the digital revolution – filtering through the vast number of choices to find the content that you’re most likely to enjoy. We use various methodologies and have agreements with some of the best music information retrieval companies and research institutions.

Additional applications of our various technologies and services include music therapy, copyright violation detection, radio station playlist programming, music advertising targeting and the optimization of products that use music to enhance their appeal, such as video games and movies.

As research continues we expect breakthrough discoveries to be made about why music appeals to the human mind and questions to be answered about our nature. We hope to develop applications in education and to even look at the music taste influences caused by environment vs. genetics.
